Certificate Revalidation Requirements
Under STCW Regulation I/11, seafarers must demonstrate continued professional competence every five years. This can be achieved by approved sea service, or by completing an approved refresher course. EMTIN's refresher programmes satisfy both STCW and NIMASA revalidation requirements.
Advanced Fire Fighting Refresher
Mandatory refresher for seafarers holding Advanced Fire Fighting certification. Covers updated fire-fighting techniques, breathing apparatus use, and team command exercises in our live fire training facility.
STCW Basic Safety Training Refresher
Refresher covering all four BST elements: Personal Survival Techniques, Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting, Elementary First Aid, and Personal Safety & Social Responsibilities. Required for certificate revalidation.
GMDSS Refresher
Updates GOC and ROC holders on current GMDSS procedures, new equipment, DSC protocols, and distress communication requirements. Includes simulator exercises on all GMDSS sub-systems.
Advanced Tanker Oil Operations Refresher
Refresher for officers holding Advanced Oil Tanker certification. Covers updated cargo handling procedures, inert gas systems, emergency response, and environmental protection requirements.
Advanced Tanker Chemical Operations Refresher (TASCO)
Refresher for TASCO/CHEMCO certificate holders. Updates knowledge of chemical cargo properties, hazard management, tank cleaning procedures, and current MARPOL Annex II requirements.
ECDIS Refresher
Updates ECDIS-certified navigators on software changes, new chart formats, alarm management best practice, and lessons learned from ECDIS-related incidents. Conducted on approved ECDIS simulators.
ARPA Radar Refresher
Simulator-based refresher covering ARPA target acquisition, CPA/TCPA interpretation, collision avoidance under COLREGS, and radar plotting in restricted visibility.
Simulator Proficiency Refresher
Bespoke simulator sessions for navigators, engineers and tanker officers using EMTIN's full-mission bridge, GMDSS, and tanker cargo simulators. Ideal for officers returning to sea after a break or preparing for port state control inspections.
